Advanced Security Training (AST) (Vancouver)

If you carry and use handcuffs as a licensed security professional, this training is a prerequisite to receiving the necessary endorsement on your security worker license.
Advanced Security Training (AST) is provided by an instructor approved by JIBC who is required to follow the training standards for the security industry as outlined in the BC Security Services Act. Course Sections 4, 5, and 6 are hands-on for which the students will have to be able to safely and effectively demonstrate the use of the techniques involved in the program to a level of competency assessed by the Instructor.
To qualify for an AST certificate, participants must attend ALL training sessions and successfully complete the learner assessment activities. Successful participants will receive their Certification for Training Completion electronically from the JIBC. Test fee and manual is included in your registration.

Please note: Certification and Re-certification
- Certification: this is a 3-day course.
- Re-certification takes place on the 3rd day only.
If you are re-certifying, you do not have to partake in days 1 and 2.
Prerequisites:
We will require from you the following documents,
- Certification: Picture or scanned copy of your Basic Security Training Certificate
- Re-Certfication: Picture or scanned copy of your Advanced Security Training Certificate & Picture or scanned copy of your Valid Security License displaying (front and back). License must display “Authorized to carry and use restraints (handcuffs only)”.
- Par-Q. Please print, complete, and bring in hand on the first day of training.
- Waiver. Please print, complete, and bring in hand on the first day of training.
Joining Instructions:
- Equipment: Handcuffs and keys are NOT provided. Participants are required to bring their own handcuffs, handcuff pouch, and key. Handcuffs must be chain link (not hinged or fixed). Participants must purchase these in advance prior to taking the course. Please contact Glen ([email protected]) at MD Charlton in Victoria, BC for purchase suggestions.
- Clothing: Please wear comfortable clothing and athletic footwear. Please wear pants with belt loops and a belt.
- Breaks: Please bring water and snacks. Although we will break frequently, there will not be enough time to leave the venue. You will have a 45 min-1 hr long lunch and are welcome to leave the venue at that time.
- Hygiene: Please wear deodorant and ensure nails are trimmed short. Please avoid perfume and cologne as some partners may have scent sensitivities.
- Exam: You will require a laptop to complete your exam. The exam will be administered in class in the last 2 hours on the last day of class. Click here for exam instructions. Do NOT challenge your test prior to taking the course.
Note: Registration is non-refundable or transferable. Participants will receive a full refund if the course is cancelled due to low registration.
